DESCRIPTION: The CARE Research and Development Laboratory (CRDL) at The University of Alabama has developed a suite of law enforcement software applications for a number of handheld computer platforms in a mobile wireless communications environment. These applications include electronic citations and crash reporting, as well as various Web-based information query systems. Peripheral capabilities include bar code scanning and voice recognition (developed in conjunction with Auburn University’s IMPACT center), while wireless data communications includes cellular phone systems, radio systems and 802.11. Because of the intensive data security requirements associated with law enforcement, we also maintain supportive research efforts in wireless network security. This work was principally supported by the Southwest Alabama Integrated Criminal Justice System (SAICS). |
