Implementing Infrastructure Security Policies in Active Directory

BACK TO LIST

Active Directory and Windows 2000 present unique enterprise configuration and management issues for systems administrators especially in the realm of security. This presentation details specific security policy implementations within the Department of Defense (DoD) at a Combatant Command, in several U.S. Air Force MAJCOMs, and in the Installation Access Control System (IACS). Utilizing examples from IACS in particular, the author describes the policies, encryption methods, and secure server build methodology for an Active Directory deployment that touches every DoD installation in Europe. The security policies within this system facilitate usage of biometric systems, barcode readers, and photographs in conjunction with DoD CAC cards to determine installation access.
