| Recently, some senior managers have called for "lean project management" and "lean software development process" with a goal of lowering cost and increasing productivity, primarily through eliminating unnecessary steps and enhancing other steps for added value. Does "lean processes" mean no longer complying with Software Capability Maturity Model (CMM-SW), ISO-9001, or Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)? Is there a balance between mature processes and lean processes? Is management saying that while the benefits of mature processes are welcomed, it is costing the organization too much? These and other questions are answered. | |
