Lessons Learned From the Development of a Six Sigma Enhanced Requirements Engineering Process

Monday
Presentation

Numerous studies have been conducted by a variety organizations in an attempt to determine the issues that impact software development. From these studies, the requirements engineering process is consistently cited as a major factor in the success or failure of software projects. As part of the Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Six Sigma initiative requirements engineering was identified as an area that could be improved. A Six Sigma project was initiated to address the problems being experienced in this area.

This interactive presentation will illustrate the critical nature of software requirements to the success of any software project. Attendees will be introduced to the Six Sigma approach used by Northrop Grumman to address the challenge of eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and managing software requirements. Examples of the enhanced requirements engineering process will be shared with participants and lessons learned during the development of the enhanced process will be discussed.
