How Tools Kill Productivity and What to do About It

Thursday
Presentation

Organizations using productivity tools keep making the same mistakes. Tools are brought in as a panacea or a savior, but without the infrastructure they need to help us succeed. Once tools are in place, we fail to manage their use effectively or at all. This presentation summarizes lessons learned over two decades of watching what happens to the use of productivity tools in government and industry. A management action checklist is proposed to reduce productivity loss and gain renewed value from new and existing tools in your organization. This applies to both complex software tool suites and basic desktop office utilities. The lessons learned apply to the entire range of productivity tools.
