Metrics Beyond Software Engineering

Monday
Presentation

Metrics are not just for software engineering. What’s good for software can be just as effective for other disciplines.

Leveraging its successes in software engineering process improvement in achieving Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 4 and advancing all engineering disciplines via Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), Harris Corp. has long recognized the business value in extending integrated metrics across all of engineering. Under common sponsorship of an engineering process group, multiple disciplines have overcome traditional boundaries and extended integration across their engineering command media, training, change control, appraisals and metrics.

This integrated approach has not only helped Harris deliver systems that satisfy the objectives of its customers and stakeholders, it has resulted in measurable improvements to all engineering disciplines performance. A standardized set of systems, electrical, and mechanical engineering metrics have been developed and deployed, complementing the existing software engineering metrics, showing quality and productivity improvement trends.
