This presentation will show how the Defense Contracts Management
Association (DCMA) is using the Capability Maturity Model Integration
(CMMI) to develop and improve the surveillance strategy of their
engineering and software workforce.
The main idea behind this methodology is linking the contractor processes to the products being built. The way DCMA is doing this is by mapping the contractor processes to the CMMI process areas and to the project’s Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). The program office and contractor are both organized around the WBS. It’s the common language between the two entities. When surveillance is performed against a CMMI process area, the relationship to the WBS (thus to products) can be readily determined. Our approach maps the WBS effort to process areas so that meaningful predictive outcomes can be made against the program. The goals of this approach are as follows: -Evaluate a supplier’s most critical processes and products -Identify (as early as possible ) the predominant risks in the program -Make predictions regarding programmatic outcomes -Creation of a targeted risk management surveillance plan -Provides a common surveillance structure for our engineers and software personnel The initial results of this approach will be briefed with a discussion of future enhancements. |
