| Net Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) is an FY2004 new start program designed to provide a set of Core Enterprise Services for the Defense Department's Global Information Grid (GIG). The GIG requires combining the specialized information production, consumption, and display features of numerous Defense community systems with a general-purpose capability to publish, subscribe, aggregate, and manage information at the enterprise level. GIG is like a private World Wide Web (WWW). Many applications distributed worldwide will interoperate, enabling several million appropriately authorized users to readily publish and pull vast amounts of information, anywhere, anytime. The suite of interdependent Core Enterprise Services is similar to the Web services that enable powerful and ubiquitous operations of the WWW. | |
