(A) The Use of Influence Maps to Understand Systems-of-Systems Programmatics
This presentation introduces Influence Maps (IMs), a graph- and symbolic logic-based technique for identifying and characterizing intra- and inter-organizational relationships within a System of Systems (SoS) context. The theoretical foundations for IMs are presented, including a brief treatment of Deontic logics. The different levels of IMs—context, node-centric, and arc-centric are defined through their application in a representative SoS example. The linkage to an accompanying reasoning framework is described, and this combination is shown to have the potential to inform program management decisions in situations where there are incomplete, inconsistent, and conflicting guidance, directives, and requirements (in short, for almost every program that has ever existed!).
