Since we are in the real estate business, we certainly have. And, whether you are a buyer or a seller looking for representation or an agent verifying the competition in the marketplace, this number is probably relevant to you, too.

How many real estate agents are there in Canada?

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) reports that there are more than 140,000 real estate brokers, agents and sellers, working through 79 real estate boards and associations across Canada. At the same time, Statista.com reports 258,054 employees in the Canadian real estate industry as of March 2021, but that number could also include ancillary real estate services.

While these numbers are a good place to start, we wanted to dig deeper and examine how these professionals are distributed across the country.

How many real estate agents are there in Ontario?

The largest real estate association in Canada is the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA), which represents 82,000 REALTORS® of 36 real estate boards. It’s here that you can also find Canada’s largest real estate board, TREB (Toronto Real Estate Board), which serves over 62,000 agents in the Greater Toronto Area alone.

How many real estate agents are there in each province?

The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) is the second largest real estate association in Canada, with more than 23,000 Commercial and residential REALTORS®.

The third largest real estate association in the country is located in Quebec, where the Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers of Quebec (APCIQ) brings together more than 13,000 real estate brokers and agencies.

They are closely followed by the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) which represents more than 10,500 REALTORS in Alberta from the 10 local real estate boards and associations.

In conclusion of the list, we find the Manitoba Real Estate Association (MREA) representing approximately 2,200 agents, the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) which has more than 1,800 real estate brokers and sellers, the NBREA in New Brunswick with 950 agents, the Saskatchewan REALTORS® Association (SRA) with more than 1,500 REALTORS® and the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of REALTORS® (NLAR) which represents more than 500 REALTORS®.
