A NEW lease of life could soon be on the cards for a derelict church on the Powys border, which has gone up for sale with an asking price of less than £50,000.
The Grade II* listed St Silas Church in Bollingham, near Kington, is now on the market after being put on the market with Sunderlands estate agents for offers in excess of £45,000.
Constructed of local sandstone rubble with dressed stone dressings, the church features decorative stained glass windows to the east and west of the structure while the sides of the building have single windows.
Sunderlands said it understands the building has potentially 12th or 13th century origins, but was largely rebuilt between 1865 and 1867, with the addition of the south porch and bell tower.
The low-pitched roof of the fenced church is currently covered with tarpaulin, but it is understood that underneath are sandstone slates.
Inside, the building has exposed and plaster walls and decorative tiled floors and flagstones.
The 0.4 acre cemetery is also included in the sale.
St Silas is approximately 2.5 miles south of Kington and is in a rural area on the west side of the A4111.
Officers said the property is available for continued church use in the F1 use class and other F1 uses may also be feasible, or perhaps alternative commercial uses subject to obtaining a satisfactory planning consent.
