CRAWFORDVILLE, Florida. (WTXL) – A property purchase was approved by the Wakulla County Board of Commissioners on June 20 for improvements to Medart Recreation Park.

Located on the corner of Evalinda Street and Coast Road 98, the purchased property is expected to be a gateway from the capital to the sea, linking the Medart Leisure Park directly to the trail.

Possible improvements to the park could include the construction of additional parking, bike racks, bathrooms, water features, an information kiosk and an outdoor pavilion.

County Administrator David Edwards said the commissioners’ plan is to link the two recreational activities together to provide citizens with more experiences.

“The Leisure Park is a place where friends gather to play sports, kids hit their first home run and families stay active and the Capital Seaside Trail is a great amenity for all ages, whether it’s either used for walking, hiking or biking,” Edwards said. “Both are an important part of our community that brings everyone together.”

Medart Recreation Park is located at 79 Recreation Drive in Crawfordville. Apparently, the park has two tennis courts, four basketball courts, nine baseball diamonds, two batting cages, a playground, a 0.8 mile walking path, and two multipurpose courts.
