Why Moms Make Great Realtors

It’s no wonder society has dedicated an entire day to celebrating our mothers. Equipped with all the patience, kindness and empathy needed to run a household, mothers deserve every minute of special treatment.

But raising a family while juggling a career can be incredibly demanding, especially since very few jobs offer the flexibility most parents need.

“In real estate, you can manage your own hours and create a schedule that works around you and your family,” said Adrian Goslett, Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa.

This is just one possible reason why real estate might be a good choice for moms who need flexible working hours. But, there are other aspects of motherhood that could help mothers succeed in the real estate industry.

Below, RE/MAX of Southern Africa shared the top reasons why mothers often make such good real estate agents:

1. Manage Everyone’s Schedules: Moms need to be flexible enough to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules, from soccer practice to extra lessons and everything in between; that’s why so many mothers make such good real estate agents. Realtors need to greet clients when they can only view homes after hours, planning with current occupants to make it convenient for everyone, while answering all their emails simultaneously and remaining available to customers.

2. Provide Emotional Support: When the kids have had a tough day at school, moms are there to listen, give advice, and share comforting words like only a mom can. In real estate, it is also important to develop an emotional bond with your clients; after all, real estate agents are there to help clients make some of the most important decisions of their lives, like buying or selling a home. Building trust between customers is the best way to ensure a smooth transaction.

3. Adapt to changing circumstances: Things almost never go as planned, especially when you are raising young children. Mothers learn to adapt to adapt to whatever life throws at them. For example, you might not be notified of a project until the day before it is due and will need to go to the nearest open store to purchase the necessary supplies. Likewise, when a seller cancels a viewing minutes before the buyer’s arrival, good real estate agents can quickly think through and arrange a viewing at another nearby property, or find an alternative solution that works for both. clients. This incredible ability to adapt to whatever is thrown at you is what can separate the good guys from the great guys.

4. Masters of multitasking: Multitasking is a must-have skill for parents and real estate agents. Having the ability to focus on multiple things at once is essential for both roles. As a mother, getting your kids up and out in time for school is a daily juggling act, from cooking breakfast and preparing lunches, to getting them dressed while you dress yourself. Likewise, as a real estate agent, you may have to juggle last-minute lender requests, an accelerated closing schedule, and client demands at the same time – and for multiple transactions and clients. Having the practice of multitasking at home can help agents navigate the chaos of multiple day-to-day transactions.
